Community Action Fellows

Ad for Community Action Fellow Position

Community Action Fellows are undergraduate or graduate student leaders committed to strengthening our community and developing leadership skills. 

Community Action Fellows have the opportunity to:

  • Design and implement original community change projects connected to Community Engaged Learning's Areas of Impact (Food Security, Education & Literacy, Voting & Political Engagement, and Environmental Sustainability)
  • Serve as a liaison to multiple local non-profit organizations and government agencies
  • Co-lead a council of on-campus and off-campus partners in your Area of Impact
  • Attend two meetings per month with other Fellows focusing on leadership development, community engagement, and professional networking throughout the year
  • Serve as an Alternative Spring Break trip leader (all expenses paid)
  • Help us spread the word about opportunities with Community Engaged Learning through tabling, info sessions, and presentations

This time commitment is an average of eight hours/week. Fellows receive a $375 stipend every quarter of the academic year (October, December, March, and May) with the completion of all responsibilities.

We have 1-2 Environmental Sustainability Community Action Fellow positions available. to be considered.

Critical Dates for Selected Community Action Fellows:

  • Complete a required training that will be scheduled when the successful Fellow(s) are available; Fellows will connect with each other, learn about CEL's Areas of Impact as well as community organizing techniques, and plan for the year)
  • Friday afternoons (from 1:00-2:30 p.m.) throughout the academic year (required meetings that will be up to 90 minutes in length); candidates will not be eligible for the position if there are any academic conflicts with this meeting time. We expect all Fellows will make attending each bi-weekly Community Action Fellow meeting their top priority during those days/times. 

Selection of Community Action Fellows:

  • There will be 1-2 Environmental Sustainability-focused Community Action Fellows selected and invited to serve through the remainder of the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Candidates complete an interview process with CEL staff following the application deadline; invitations to serve as 2024-2025 Fellows will be distributed to successful candidates by the end of September 2024.
