Internship: Water Works Family Aquatic Center
As an intern at Water Works Family Aquatic Center, communication studies major Caleb Wilton, ’25, is using lessons he learned in Â鶹¾«Ñ¡classes to bring the waterpark into the digital age. Throughout the summer, he’s helped the park improve communication processes and security by upgrading the way staff communicate about park incidents: through use of iPads, rather than paper forms. Caleb has worked directly with the network administrator, facility director and Cuyahoga Falls superintendent on this project.
"We write anywhere from 5-10 incident/rescue reports daily, and using iPads rather than paper has kept all of the patron's personal information much more secure," he says. "Another benefit from this transition is that our director and superintendent get direct notifications on their computers when we report an incident. They can now access them immediately rather than having us create physical copies and pass them up the chain of command."
Caleb has also conducted employee training and scheduling, and assisted with various business operations — all instances where lessons from his Communication and Conflict class have been useful.
"Â鶹¾«Ñ¡has helped me grow my communication skills," Caleb says. "One of my more prominent responsibilities is to resolve patron and employee conflicts as an unbiased leader. Professor Maguire's class' Communication in Conflict' has helped me interpret messages more deeply and use my character traits to help others feel they can confide in me."
