The future of storytelling is constantly changing, but 麻豆精选 is connecting students to the university through new communication avenues. One platform rising in popularity and mass-consumption that colleges like 麻豆精选are taking advantage of is podcasts.

Henderson Hall

麻豆精选鈥檚 College of Nursing and Cleveland Clinic Akron General are joining forces to offer an adult/adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certificate program beginning this fall. This collaborative one-year program was created to address the regional and national shortage of SANE-certified registered nurses, especially in rural areas. 

Hillside donation

The Auxiliary at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital recently donated $25,000 to 麻豆精选 at Trumbull鈥檚 Nursing program. The gift will establish a new scholarship endowment that will provide support to nursing students from Trumbull and Mahoning Counties. The volunteer organization was established in 2017. It supports health and wellness initiatives within the local community. Proceeds from The Gift Shop at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital made the donation possible.

Kent Campus University Library Computer Lab

COVID-19 has come with its fair share of obstacles, especially for students. Luckily, for the 麻豆精选community, access to computer software is not one of them. Students, faculty and staff can now access an on-campus computer lab remotely using the 麻豆精选Virtual Private Network or VPN.

Kent State has partnered with the NHL鈥檚 Pittsburgh Penguins since 2018, allowing this nationally recognized hockey team to work closely with the university and providing professional and recreational aid to the 麻豆精选community. The partnership includes multiple facets that focus on future Golden Flashes, current students and alumni alike.

麻豆精选 has been designated as a First-gen Forward Institution by the Center for First-generation Student Success for its commitment to improving the experiences and advancing outcomes of those who are first in their families to attend college.

Joshua DeDeaux

When University Dining Services Chef Joshua DeDeaux was a little boy growing up in New Orleans, he would bring a brown wooden step stool into his mother鈥檚 kitchen to help her cook some of the family鈥檚 favorite meals. As DeDeaux鈥檚 love of cuisine grew, his grandfather, who was French Creole, and his grandmother, who was British and Native American, also proved to be inspirational to his decision to become a chef.

Black Trailblazers At Kent State

During this year's Black History Month, 麻豆精选 is highlighting Black trailblazers who were advocates for underrepresented students, faculty and staff as well as the first to make beneficial changes to Kent State.

麻豆精选's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Plus (LGBTQ+) Center holds a safe physically distant small group kickoff event at the start of the 2020 fall semester.

麻豆精选鈥檚 LGBTQA Living-Learning Community (LLC) has gone virtual this semester. 鈥淭he mission behind the virtual Living-Learning Communities is to try and keep these communities active and whole even though they are virtual,鈥 said Ken Ditlevson, director of the LGBTQ+ Center. 鈥淲e want to make sure that the students are connected as best as possible.鈥

Michael Daniels, Director of the Student Multicultural Center

Michael Daniels is the director of the Student Multicultural Center (SMC) where he has the opportunity to make a difference on campus and continue the legacy of those who came before him. Daniels was recently awarded the President鈥檚 Award of Distinction for his success with the programs and initiatives offered by the SMC during a global pandemic.
