Dean Kahler was one of the nine students wounded in the May 4, 1970, shootings at �鶹��ѡ that also claimed the lives of four students during protests of the Vietnam War. Kahler’s long-time friend, Paul Keane, recently told the story to Cleveland.com of their friendship and what Kahler has been up to since that fateful day.

Sudden cardiac arrest, when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, is the leading cause of natural death in the United States. To help people survive from sudden cardiac arrest, the city of Kent has partnered with �鶹��ѡ and University Hospitals Portage Medical Center to offer PulsePoint Respond.

This winter at Kent State, an art show and featured speaker on mental health will honor the life and legacy of assistant professor and artist Christopher Darling, who died June 2018. The events will take place Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, hosted by the School of Visual Communication Design, in which Darling taught.

On Friday, Jan. 24, members of the �鶹��ѡ community and the general public gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The university’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration started at 4 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. This year’s keynote speaker was Melissa Harris-Perry, Ph.D., the Maya Angelou Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University, television host, author and political commentator.

With donations made by the �鶹��ѡ community, University Dining Services was able to deliver 500 turkeys to Mobile Meals in Akron for the holiday season.

Terry Schwarz, director of the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC), home to Kent State’s urban design graduate program, as well as public service activities of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, was recently featured on News 5 Cleveland.

When human development and family studies major Katherine Schroeder heard about the Ohio College2Careers program coming to �鶹��ѡ for her first semester of sophomore year, Schroeder was determined to learn about what the program could offer her. After applying, Schroeder has been given the support she had been looking for in her college experience.

Researchers at �鶹��ѡ were featured on Spectrum News 1 discussing the development and implementation of their drug prevention infrastructure for three Ohio counties.

�鶹��ѡ constitutional law professor, Chris Banks, Ph.D., recaps the impeachment inquiry hearings from Nov. 19 with WKYC lead anchor Russ Mitchell. Banks teaches undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from American Politics to law, justice and society.

Artifacts of May 4, 1970 – a survivor’s jacket, a gas mask and gun shell casing – tell a story that’s not often accessible to the general public. Assistant Professor Abe Avnisan and students in his digital sciences capstone course will bring these artifacts’ stories to life via the exhibit “May 4: Through the Looking Glass.”
