Public Skating Rules

Public Skating Rules

• All patrons must wear skates while on the ice. No one is permitted on the ice without skates.
• Skaters must continue moving at all times and follow the designated skating direction.
• No roughness, excessive speed, racing, weaving, or human chains. Tag, games, and the use of sticks or pucks are prohibited.
• No intentional sliding, diving, kicking, or chipping of the ice.
• Throwing snow, ice, or any objects is not permitted.
• Skaters may not carry children while on the ice.
• Limit the use of cell phones, smart watches, and other devices while skating to ensure the safety of all patrons.
• Figure skating moves are restricted to center ice only. Ice Arena staff will make the final determination.
• Children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult. The adult does not need to skate but must remain inside the facility.
• Do not sit on the boards.
• Headphones or earbuds are not allowed on the ice.
• Skates are not permitted on bleachers or any unprotected concrete areas of the facility.
• All ice exit doors must remain clear at all times.
• Eating, drinking, or chewing gum is not permitted on the ice.
• The use of tobacco products, e-cigarettes, alcohol, or illegal substances is prohibited anywhere on the premises.
• Ice Arena staff may remove any individual from the ice or facility for repeated rule violations. Serious infractions may result in suspension from facility use.

Follow all posted and verbally communicated facility rules. Anyone who fails to comply with these rules—or engages in conduct that endangers themselves or others—may be asked to leave the ice and/or the facility without refund.

Skating FAQs

What if I don't have my own skates?

Skate rental is included with your admission fee. Skates are available at the Skate Rental Counter. Sizes available: Youth 5 - 13, Junior 1 - Adult 14.

What size skate do I ask for at the Skate Rental Counter?

Let the Ice Arena staff know your shoe size, and they will find you the correct skate size. Rental skates are designed to fit everyone. Shoe size does not necessarily match skate size.

What type of skate should I ask for at the Skate Rental Counter?

Standard ice skates (with a figure skate blade) are recommended for all first-time skaters, as they make it easier for the skater to balance.

Should I wear a helmet to skate?

U.S. Figure Skating strongly recommends the use of a hockey or multi-sport helmet for all beginner skaters and children 6 years of age and younger. Participants supply their own helmet.

Where do I park?

The Ice Arena parking lot is located on the corner of Loop Road and Johnston Drive, right beside the Ice Arena. Parking is free at the ice arena after 6 PM on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Skating Assumption of Risk

Skaters are deemed to have knowledge of and assume the inherent risk of engaging in ice skating, including but not limited to the following:

  • Injuries that result from collisions or contact with other skaters or other individuals who are on the skating surface.
  • Injuries that result from falls.
  • Injuries that involve objects or artificial structures that are properly within the intended path of travel of the skater or other individuals.
