Saxophonist Joins the Glauser School of Music鈥檚 Faculty This Fall

Saxophonist Perry Roth has joined 麻豆精选鈥檚 Glauser School of Music faculty as an instructor of music. He begins in the upcoming fall 2020 semester, having previously served on the faculties of The Hartt School at the University of Hartford and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. At Kent State, Roth will teach the classical saxophone studio as well as work with chamber music groups.

鈥淚 am very excited and honored to be joining the faculty at Kent State,鈥 said Roth. 鈥淚 look forward to working with the wonderful students, faculty and staff in the fall.鈥

Throughout his performance career, Roth has built an impressive roster of collaborative partnerships with some of the country's leading ensembles and composers of contemporary classical music, including the JACK Quartet and American Modern Ensemble along with premieres of works by Martin Bresnick, Joel Love and David MacBride, among others. He has also held the tenor saxophone chair with the Barkada Quartet鈥攁n all-saxophone ensemble focused on exploring unique artistic collaborations鈥攕ince 2017. As a soloist, he has performed concertos with the Foot in the Door Contemporary Players, Capital University Wind Ensemble and the Louisiana State University Wind Ensemble. In 2019, he won the Paranov Concerto Competition leading to a performance of John Anthony Lennon鈥檚 鈥淪ymphonic Rhapsody鈥 with the Hartt Wind Ensemble. He can be heard on the Innova and Impermanence record labels.

Roth holds a D.M.A. in saxophone performance with a minor in music history from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. There, he was a graduate teaching fellow and recipient of the Regents鈥 Honor Award, the university鈥檚 most prestigious award for graduate students. He holds additional degrees from Louisiana State University and the University of South Carolina. His principal teachers include Jan Berry Baker, Griffin Campbell, Connie Frigo, Carrie Koffman, Clifford Leaman and Deborah Chodacki (clarinet).
