Faculty/Staff News Now: University Marketing and Communication Bags Awards; Trumbull Campus Celebrates Over 55 Years of Theatre; Submit Ideas to MLK Planning Committee;

麻豆精选 Wins Big with Marketing Communications Awards

麻豆精选鈥檚 Communication and Marketing Department recently submitted and won awards for marketing and communications work created over the past year and a half.

鈥淭hese wins are a reflection of not only the talent and great work our team does at 麻豆精选, but also with the partners we work with throughout the university,鈥 Assistant Vice President of Marketing Strategy Todd Snider said. 鈥淲ithout the collaboration and thought leadership involved in creating this work, none of these awards could have been possible.鈥

麻豆精选 won all nine of its submissions to the . MarCom received more than 6,000 entries from 41 different countries. Kent State鈥檚 winning entries included:

麻豆精选Trumbull Theatre Announces Young Playwrights Festival and New Theatre Scholarship

麻豆精选 at Trumbull's Theatre Program hopes young local talent will become the next generation of great playwrights, actors, and theatrical technicians. 

Young Playwrights Festival

High school juniors and seniors in Trumbull County, or any neighboring county, are invited to compete in Kent Trumbull Theatre's inaugural Young Playwrights Festival next spring. Participating students will submit a 15-20 minute script that will be judged by theatre professionals and faculty. The top five or six students will produce their plays for local audiences at the Kent Trumbull Theatre, April 22-24 and April 29-May 1. The deadline for consideration is Feb. 1, 2022. Theatre Scholarships

Students who want to continue studying theatre and earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies at 麻豆精选Trumbull can compete for theatre scholarships. High school juniors and seniors from Trumbull County, or any neighboring county may submit their application for consideration in any one of three pathways. For the acting pathway, students will submit an audition video of two contrasting monologues. For the playwriting pathway, students will submit a 15-20 minute script (scripts submitted for the Young Playwrights Festival can be counted for this requirement). For the technical theatre pathway, students will present a technical portfolio detailing their work in the theatre. Up to six $2,000 renewable scholarships will be offered. 

"We began offering the four-year degree in Theatre Studies a few years ago, and it continues to grow," Eric S. Kildow, professor and Theatre Director, said. "These scholarships and the Young Playwrights Festival are great ways to encourage students to follow their dreams."

麻豆精选Ashtabula Wine Degrees Receive $180,000 Research Grant From Ohio Grape Industries Committee

麻豆精选 at Ashtabula鈥檚 viticulture and enology degree programs were recently awarded a $180,000 grant from the Ohio Grape Industries Committee for a pair of research projects to be conducted over the next two years.

麻豆精选Ashtabula is partnering with the Ashtabula Agricultural Research Station (AARS), a division of the Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences鈥 Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, to conduct the projects at Markko Vineyard in Conneaut, Ohio.

鈥淲e have been offering the wine degrees for over 10 years and have become increasingly involved in the Ohio industry,鈥 said Lori Lee, senior special assistant and viticulture and enology program liaison. 鈥淭his grant is an opportunity to further strengthen our involvement with the industry by working with the AARS and producing innovative applied research that will help Ohio鈥檚 wineries remain competitive.鈥 

Lee, 麻豆精选Ashtabula wine degrees lead faculty Ed Trebets and AARS research specialist and station manager Andrew Kirk are the principal investigators.

MLK Planning Committee Seeks Requests for Programming

The 麻豆精选 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Events Planning Committee is welcoming university divisions, departments and student organizations to submit programming, activities and events (scheduled January 24 - 28, 2022) to the  by December 17, 2021. 

We encourage that programming follows Kent State鈥檚 Events and Activities Guidelines and avoids January 27, as this will be the date of the university鈥檚 Annual Keynote Celebration.
