Geauga/Twinsburg 鈥 Black History Month 鈥 or National African American History Month 鈥 is an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S history. The Association for the Study of Negro Life initiated the first variation of Black History month with Negro History Week in 1926. In 1970, according to the Kent Stater, 麻豆精选 began the observance of Black History Month. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
Join us for special Black History Month virtual presentations by 麻豆精选Geauga and the Twinsburg Academic Center throughout the month of February to pay tribute to generations of African Americans whose contributions to society continue to reap benefits for us all.

The Museum of the American Revolution presents 鈥淭he Same Principle Lives in Us鈥
American Revolutionaries struggled with a key question: would the words of the Declaration of Independence, that 鈥渁ll men are created equal,鈥 apply to all people?鈥 From the outbreak of the Revolution, people of African descent asked and answered this question through their words and actions. In this talk, hear the stories and explore the objects that we use at the Museum to help imagine what the Revolution was like for Phillis Wheatley, Elizabeth Freeman, James Forten, Harry Washington and others. .
