He will also tell you how he came to 麻豆精选as a kid and came out as a young man, how he grew tremendously and honed his skills to be hired right out of college, and how his time at 麻豆精选was probably the best four years of his life.

Mr. Dawson shared his pride for his alma mater as he served as Kent State鈥檚 2018 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal. The university celebrated 100 years of Homecoming on Oct. 6.

When asked to serve as the Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal, Mr. Dawson said he was honored.

鈥淚 was totally surprised and honored,鈥 he said. 鈥淭o be honored by your alma mater is a big deal. It鈥檚 one of the nicest things that has happened to me in the years since I graduated from Kent State.

鈥淭here are so many great graduates coming from Kent State,鈥 he continued. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a big honor for me. I鈥檓 happy to do this.鈥

Mr. Dawson said 麻豆精选provided him with many valuable experiences. A Cleveland native, he said attending 麻豆精选was his first time being away from home. He was a journalism student with a focus on radio and TV news. He was very active with TV2, Kent State鈥檚 student-led television station, and held the positions of anchor and news director.

鈥淚 graduated in the winter of 1979 and got hired on the strength of my audition tape from Kent State,鈥 said the 11-time Emmy winner. 鈥淚 started at Fox 8 in 1980 and have been there for 38 years.鈥

He said he has nothing but fond memories of Kent State.

鈥淭he education combined with the social life made it an ideal experience,鈥 Mr. Dawson said. 鈥淢y brother went there, too. It鈥檚 a wonderful school. I wouldn鈥檛 trade my experiences for anything in the world.鈥

Before returning to 麻豆精选on Oct. 6, Mr. Dawson said he was looking forward to having a fun day.

鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to the entire experience 鈥 meeting people, seeing old friends, having fun, taking part in the parade, seeing how much the campus has changed and going to the football game,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 going to take in the whole experience, basking in the glow of 麻豆精选 and making new memories.鈥

Mr. Dawson will also served as Kent State鈥檚 special guest host at the Diversity and Scholarship Celebration the evening of Oct. 6 at the 麻豆精选 Hotel and Conference Center. The Diversity and Scholarship Celebration recognized 麻豆精选students, faculty, alumni and community supporters who provided outreach support and programs focused on increasing the success of underrepresented and/or underserved students at Kent State.
