The 麻豆精选 School of Art Gallery presents the 鈥淔oundations Exhibition鈥 from April 16-19. The gallery will celebrate the opening of the exhibit with a reception that is free and open to the public on Thursday, April 18, from 5-7 p.m. The School of Art Gallery is located in the Art Building at 400 Janik Drive on the Kent Campus. The 鈥淔oundations Exhibition鈥 features work from students enrolled in the courses Drawing 1, 2D Composition, 3D Composition and Digital Media. This is the third year for the exhibition, which completely fills the School of Art Gallery with student work. 鈥淓very square inch of the Main Gallery is covered salon-style, floor to ceiling with literally hundreds of images, objects and installations,鈥 says School of Art Professor Mark Schatz. 鈥淚t is quite the show!鈥 Schatz explains that the 鈥淔oundations Exhibition鈥 this year will also include some high-tech, interactive features. 鈥淪mart Labels鈥 with QR codes will link viewers鈥 mobile devices directly to student-produced videos and to digital portfolios students build using personal websites or Flickr. This year, all 2D Composition students in the School of Art were required to purchase and use iPads, which made it even easier for students to create, collect and share work. The work in the 鈥淔oundations Exhibition鈥 will include some pieces created exclusively on the iPad, as well as work created through traditional means in the studio. For many art students, this will be their first time displaying work outside of the classroom and in a gallery setting. The 鈥淔oundations Exhibition鈥 also offers an opportunity for instructors to recognize outstanding students and for the Art Club to honor the work of their peers. 鈥淚t serves as an introduction to the world as an emerging talent,鈥 Schatz says of the 鈥淔oundations Exhibition.鈥 Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 330-672-7853 or visit .
