麻豆精选 President Beverly J. Warren, emeritus artist and educator of Pan-African Studies E. Timothy Moore and head football coach Sean Lewis will serve as the guest speakers at the Fall 2018 Bowman Breakfast. The semi-annual Bowman Breakfast, which began in 1963, brings together leaders from 麻豆精选and the city of Kent in a forum designed to advance community issues and strengthen the town-gown relationship.
The topic of the breakfast is 鈥淎 Reflection on 100 Years of Homecoming.鈥 The breakfast will take place Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Doors open at 7 a.m., buffet breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program will follow at 8 a.m.
President Warren became 麻豆精选鈥檚 12th president in 2014. Since her start date, President Warren has developed an ambitious six-year plan: , which established a list of strategies to put the university on track for greater success.
In her role as the university鈥檚 chief executive officer, President Warren oversees one of the nation鈥檚 largest university systems, dedicated to research and advancement in the areas of brain health, advanced materials and liquid crystals, healthy communities, environmental science and design, and global understanding. President Warren has dedicated herself to creating a university culture where students will discover their passion and purpose in life. In President Warren, students find a mentor, friend and booster.
Mr. Moore began at 麻豆精选as a freshman and went on to serve administrative and academic positions at the university for nearly 40 years. In the Department of Pan-African Studies, he taught courses in traditional African and African-American historic, artistic and cultural experiences throughout the Pan African Diaspora for 37 years. He also served as the assistant and then associate dean of undergraduate affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences for 12 years.
Mr. Moore has received many honors and awards. In 1993, he became the first African-American at Kent State to receive the Alumni Association鈥檚 Distinguished Teaching Award. He has received numerous recognitions for Outstanding Teaching and the 2006 Distinguished Honors Faculty Award. In 2009, he received the Service to Commission Award for the Liberal Arts Advisors Commission of the National Academic Advising Association and several awards for his contributions to the university at the time of his retirement at the end of 2010. Mr. Moore was awarded Kent State鈥檚 2015 Diversity Trailblazer Award.
Coach Lewis brings an extensive coaching r茅sum茅 to 麻豆精选and has been one of the fastest-rising coaches in the nation over the last decade. He also is the youngest Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) head coach in the nation at age 32. He was named Kent State鈥檚 22nd head football coach in January and made his head coaching debut earlier this month.
Coach Lewis came to the Golden Flashes after serving as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Dino Babers at Syracuse University. Coach Lewis鈥 background stretches from his four-year playing career at the University of Wisconsin under Barry Alvarez to winning the 2015 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship as the co-offensive coordinator at Bowling Green State University.
The cost to attend is $10 per person, and reservations by no later than Friday, Sept. 28. Cash will not be collected at the door, and no shows will be billed.
