Salem Rotary Helps Discovery Garden Grow

Ā鶹¾«Ń”Salem Receives Rotary Donation

Rotary Check to Help the Discovery Garden GrowSalem ā€“ Ā鶹¾«Ń” at Salem recently received a check for $1,500 from the Salem Rotary Club, earmarked to help the campusā€™s Discovery Garden grow.

The Discovery Garden is an outdoor classroom where individuals can ā€œlearn, grow, live and laugh.ā€ Students in the horticulture program at Kent Salem use the garden space to put their lessons to work by planting and growing plants; designing and building landscape features; and harvesting the crops.

The food grown in the garden is donated to the Salem Food Pantry or used as part of the meal when Ā鶹¾«Ń”Salem hosts the Banquet in Salem twice each year.

ā€œThe donation from the Salem Rotary Club will help us expand the garden and enhance the learning opportunities for our students and the public,ā€ noted Dr. Steve Nameth, dean of the Kent Salem campus. ā€œWe appreciate the Rotaryā€™s support of the Discovery Garden, especially since it benefits so many in our community.ā€
