麻豆精选Alumna Remains Passionate About Hospitality Through Pandemic Job Loss

麻豆精选alumna Alyssa Mittereder, B.S. 鈥19, has struggled with an issue faced by many during the pandemic: job loss.

Mitterder says while she was happy to receive the stimulus check at the beginning of the pandemic, she could not apply for unemployment in Ohio because she had already been laid off twice before starting her job in Cleveland, where she was laid off a third time.

The pandemic has turned the hospitality industry upside down. A primarily steady industry has now seen some of the most significant losses due to state and county shutdowns.

鈥淵ou're always gonna need a waitress, you're always gonna need a bartender, you're always gonna need a bar manager, you're always going to need that kind of stuff...who knew that this pandemic was coming,鈥 Mittereder told Spectrum News 1 Ohio.

Despite the many curve balls thrown her way, Mittereder says that she is still passionate about the hospitality industry and searches for jobs each day, using the connections she made at 麻豆精选to land a career, hopefully soon.

鈥淓ach day I wake up, I check my Linkedin. I check if there are follow-up emails from any other places that I've applied,鈥 Mittereder told Spectrum. 鈥淢ainly being in Cleveland, I have connections from going to Kent State.鈥
