Emmanuel David

Meet Emmanuel David, a senior computer science major and international student from Nigeria.

Intending to become a cyber intelligence analyst, David said that he initially struggled with his major during his first semester because of his aversion to math.

鈥淢y journey hasn鈥檛 been without its challenges,鈥 David admitted.

However, he said that computer science staff, Deanna Burritt-Peffer, administrative clerk, and Marcy Curtiss, special assistant, nudged him to see the bigger picture of the program and how it aligns with his goals.

Over the past two years, he has immersed himself in leadership roles across campus, including the , where he was initially appointed as an intern and later elected as the director of community affairs.

鈥淚n both roles, I advocated for students. I championed causes for the community, especially a street card for Kent that will assist the homeless population in navigating resources in the community,鈥 David said.

He also served on the programming committee for Black United Students and as the vice president for Nigerians In Kent.

David won the 2023 I AM FIRST Undergraduate Student Award and also was nominated by the Women鈥檚 Center for its Gender, Equity, Advocacy and Representation award.

鈥淪ometimes it鈥檚 easy to get swamped with school and life and think that no one sees the effort I put in,鈥 David said. 鈥淭hose recognitions for me were the universe鈥檚 way of saying I was on the right track.鈥

When he鈥檚 not working and volunteering for the community, David enjoys spending time with Formula 1 content, whether gaming, watching or participating in local go-karting.

David currently works as a senior desktop technician with the Division of Information Technology in its End User Support Services department.

鈥淭he position has provided me with the best colleagues one could hope for,鈥 David said. 鈥淚t has also helped me connect with a diverse set of staff across university departments.鈥
