Quick Tip: Canvas End-of-Semester Reminders

We hope the end of the semester is going smoothly for everyone.  We鈥檙e writing with some reminders and updates that we hope you will find helpful as we close out the fall semester and begin preparing for spring.

End-of-Semester Reminders

  1. Double-check your Canvas gradebook
    If you are using the Canvas gradebook, double-check that everything is accurate and up to date.  Don鈥檛 forget to:
     
    • Make sure you have for all graded items.  You can create 鈥溾 assignments for items that students submit in class or that do not have a submission component (e.g., attendance or participation grades).
       
    • Make sure any and are configured accurately.
       
    • for students鈥 work.  Enter zeros for any missed work (blank assignment grades in Canvas do NOT factor into students鈥 grade totals).
       
    • If you are using a grading scheme, double-check that it matches your syllabus.  You can or .
       
  2. Report final grades
    is available for Canvas, which allows you to post final grades from Canvas into FlashLine.  You also still have the option to . 
     
  3. Adjust Fall 2022 Canvas course settings if needed
    Students can only participate in a Canvas course while the course is active.  Once the course end date passes, the course enters a 鈥渃oncluded鈥 or read-only state. 
     
    • If you do not want students to be able to view the course after the course end date, you can enable the 鈥溾 setting.
       
    • If you have students who need to submit work after the course end date, you can as needed.
       

Prepare for the Spring semester

  • Adjust availability of your Spring courses (optional) 鈥 By default, Canvas courses are published, meaning students can view them even prior to the start of the term.  You may want to temporarily or while you are working on your initial course setup.
