College of Nursing Community Gives Support For Future Nurses

From Touch Point Online Magazine, Winter 2021 - Vol. V, Issue 4

The past few years have not been the easiest for students in the College of Nursing. Our students have been faced with challenges not seen for over a century. As nurses tend to do, these students adapted and worked hard to make the best of a difficult situation. Remote learning, abbreviated clinicals, virtual simulation time and many other challenges all presented real obstacles that made the already demanding curriculum that much more difficult. This did not dissuade these bright future nursing leaders. They rallied together and faced this adversity head-on.

However, our nursing students were not alone in their journey. Throughout this entire ordeal, generous and compassionate supporters of the College of Nursing were there to help. From support of our “Race into Finals Emergency Fund” to those who have created endowed funds and scholarships, the College of Nursing family worked together to make sure our students excelled.

In 2021 we have awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships and emergency support to over a hundred students in the College of Nursing. These students, who otherwise faced financial uncertainty that threatened their ability to graduate, were offered a path to success thanks to the College of Nursing community. The generosity and kindness of the supporters of the college demonstrate that when you come to 鶹ѡto pursue a degree in nursing, you are not alone on that journey. You have thousands of alumni, friends and supporters cheering hard for your success.

Our community demonstrated just how much they believe in these future nurses as we saw the creation of scholarships and funds that honored and memorialized loved ones, inspired innovation in nursing, provided emergency support for our students, extended a helping hand to underrepresented students and so much more. Numerous alumni and supporters have paid it forward to ensure this current generation of nursing students has the support they need to thrive.

We are so thankful to have such amazing and dedicated alumni, faculty, staff and friends helping to provide a path to graduation for our students. These scholars will not forget the impact you have had on their lives and education. The College of Nursing family at 鶹ѡ plays a pivotal role in the ultimate success of our students. Without you, we would be just another nursing college. As we know, we are not just another nursing college. At Kent State, Flashes take care of Flashes. Thank you.
