The politics of translation in reading modern Iran –Mythologies of history in post-revolutionary Anglo-American interpretations of Ali Shariati’s political philosophy.
This research and associated forthcoming journal article aim to directly address the issues of subjective knowledge in cross-national historiography and retrospectively reading revolution through the lens of translations. The Iranian intellectual activist Ali Shariati (1933–1977) serves as a significant case study in sociopolitical cognitive dissonance with the posthumous rise of his works and philosophies nationally in Iran, regionally in the Middle East, and internationally across Islamic societies. The research attempts to unravel the myths behind the man and the mind.
