Hiring Restriction Lifted

President Lester A. Lefton announced on April 2 that the universitywide hiring restriction has been lifted.  The president imposed the restriction in December 2010, in anticipation of a significant decline in state revenues.

The end of the restriction also means that the Hiring Request form is no longer required as a prerequisite to making a faculty or staff hire. However, all hiring supervisors are expected to continue to exercise prudent business judgment and follow university policies and procedures when hiring.

In an email message sent to faculty and staff, Human Resources Vice President Willis Walker noted that although the restriction took a tremendous amount of time and effort, it was beneficial in helping the university achieve the Excellence Agenda. It also provided the Division of Human Resources with valuable information to make enhancements to the university’s current hiring forms, including the paperless Position Request Authorization form (PRA) in the My Action Items tab of FlashLine.

Wellness Survey

Just in time for national Public Health week (April 2-8), 鶹ѡwants to hear from faculty and staff about what they would like to see in a workplace wellness program. Employees will receive information this week about two opportunities to provide input during the month of April. One way is to take an online survey, which will take about 30 minutes to complete. The survey is available now through April 22.

Employees can also take part in a series of one-hour, town hall meetings that will be held during the weeks of April 9and April 16 at all campuses. Managers and supervisors are asked to coordinate work schedules to allow those who wish to attend a town hall meeting to do so. Classified employees who participate in a town hall meeting should record the time as “university business” in Kronos.

More detailed information, including dates and times for the town hall meetings and a link to the survey, is available atwww.kent.edu/hr/benefits/employee-wellness.cfm.

Department heads are encouraged to show appreciation to their student employees during the week of April 9, which has been designated Student Employee Appreciation Week. Leave Reporting Reminder

Beginning this month, the amount of time an employee has to enter outstanding leave will be two pay periods, or 30 days. This applies to employees who report vacation, sick or personal leave in the Time Reporting in Banner channel in the MyHR tab of FlashLine.

As a manager, please make sure that employees who report leave through FlashLine have accurately reported the number of vacation, sick or personal hours taken and have submitted it for approval.

Managers should also make sure that time approvers are reviewing and approving leave reports in a timely manner and are regularly checking to make sure that employees submit all vacation and leave time that is taken. Prior to scheduling leave, the employee is responsible for scheduling vacation time in advance with his/her supervisor.

If you have any questions, contact a member of the HR Records staff at 330-672-2901 or hr-records@kent.edu.
