Wireless Hot Spot Loaners

Wireless Hot Spot Services: Update

If you received a wireless hot spot provided to you through the KSU Technology Loan Program last year, the funding source (dollars received by the University as part of the CARES act) has been depleted.  If you have received a hot spot as part of this program, service will be discontinued on Thursday, September 30th. If you are a faculty or staff member and would like to continue your service beyond September 30th, we would be happy to work with your department to transition the bill to your area.  The service charge is $60/month.  Please note: as these are provided to us by Verizon and AT&T for use by state entities, they cannot be transitioned to personal accounts; they must be paid for by a University fund. If this is of interest to you, please work with your department first to gain approval and then email us at techloan@kent.edu.

If you are not continuing your service, once your hot spot is inactive, you may return it to the front desk of Stewart Hall between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  Alternatively, you can also request a return shipping label by emailing us at techloan@kent.edu.

Other Options

On Dec 27, 2020, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 became law and established an Emergency Broadband Connectivity fund.  This allows for eligible low-income households to receive a discount on the cost of broadband services and certain connected devices. Discounts include:

  • Up to $50/month discount on your broadband services and associated equipment rentals
  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer

The program will end when the fund runs out of money, or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the COVID-19 health emergency, whichever is sooner. To learn more or to apply for this fund, please review the or visit .
