Benefits of Living on Campus

There are numerous benefits to living on campus including convenience, opportunities to develop life-long friendships, and to live in an environment that fosters the educational and personal growth of students.

The convenience of living on campus provides students easy access to numerous campus resources such as faculty and academic advisors, the library, dining halls and other campus eateries, the health center, recreational facilities, and student organizations. Additionally, students have the opportunity to interact with university faculty outside the classroom by participating in a variety of campus-wide and residence hall programs.

The benefits of on-campus living can also be measured quantitatively. Students who live in the residence halls vs. commuting to campus do better academically and also are more likely to remain enrolled.

RA and RHD/ARHD STAFF

The residence hall staff's primary responsibilities are to provide residents with valuable information, create a positive community through educational programming, promote safety and security and a high quality living environment, and serve as a resource whenever a student has a question or concern. All halls are staffed with a residence hall director and resident assistants.

Safety

Students can call 330-672-7004 to request an escort to/from any location on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during fall and spring semesters. Student Safety Assistants complete escorts, while also completing rounds in the residence halls in the afternoons and evenings. Safety Assistants receive 100 hours of training, learning fire prevention, emergency procedures, conflict resolution, de-escalation, strategies to promote mental wellness, and more

Dining Locations

University Culinary Services provides students dining options in several dining facilities across campus, including: Tri-Towers Rotunda, Eastway Center and the Kent Student Center.

Internet Access

Every student living in the residence halls has access to the residential network for in-room access to the internet and Kent State's computing resources. Students must agree to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy, Virus Removal Fee Policy, and all university, local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding internet use.

Employment and Leadership Opportunities

On-campus residents are offered a variety of leadership opportunities within their living environment. Student employment opportunities within Housing include resident assistant, desk receptionist, and safety assistant. Additionally, students have opportunities to gain leadership skills through involvement in their individual Hall Council, the governing body of their respective hall, as well as through Kent Interhall Council, the governing body to all the halls on campus.
