Road work on Summit Street will stop for the next few months, but it will resume again in the spring as the two-year project comes to a close.
Two-way traffic is scheduled to resume throughout the entire construction area in time for the start of the spring semester on Jan. 16, providing better access for motorists and pedestrians during the winter months. Contractors will be doing work on other parts of the project as weather permits, but there should be minimal disruption to the flow of traffic.
In the spring, the remaining part of Summit Street, from Janik Drive to Fraternity Circle, will be completed. The entire project, which includes the addition of a second roundabout, is expected to be finished this summer.
Weather or other factors can always delay scheduled activities or openings.
The Summit Street Improvement project, which includes enhancements to a one-mile stretch of the roadway that runs through the heart of the Kent Campus, began in the spring of 2016. The city of Kent is overseeing the project.
