Portfolio

The portfolio is the primary means for communicating an applicant's aptitude for design. Portfolio submitted for application to a graduate program in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design should be composed along the following guidelines:

1. TYPE OF SAMPLES:

Projects chosen should demonstrate the breadth as well as depth of the applicant's knowledge, abilities, and interests. They should show evidence of interest in design. Examples should include any creative work such as: design studio work, sketches, freehand drawings as well as photographs of architectural models, digital models, and drawings.  We encourage you to select no more than ten examples of work. The portfolio should be carefully conceived, well designed, and professionally presented. Projects should be clearly denoted with basic information (e.g. date, place, etc.) and very concise commentaries (objectives, concept, etc.). Teamwork and role of applicant in team-projects must be clearly noted indicating what your role was in the work.

The portfolio should be considered a design opportunity.

2. FORMAT AND SIZE:

School work and professional work should be presented in two clearly distinct and separate sections.

Design work, other than architectural or urban design (such as interior design or product design), as well as other kinds of creative work (such as free-hand drawing or photography), should be presented in a clearly distinct and separate section at the end of the booklet.

Portfolios are submitted electronically through the admission application as a pdf.
