Asli Arikan, Ph.D. to Lead Department of Management in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship

Kent, OHIO 鈥 Effective January 1, Asli Arikan, Ph.D., has been named Chair of the Department of Management in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

鈥淚 am honored to serve as chair of the inaugural Department of Management,鈥 Arikan said. 鈥淚 look forward to working with my colleagues in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship by championing our collective efforts to enhance the career readiness of our students, pursue world-class research as faculty members of 麻豆精选, a Tier-1 research institution, and engage with our stakeholders for positive societal impact.鈥

The department was formerly part of the college鈥檚 Department of Management and Information Systems and became a separate Department of Management in fall 2023. Dr. Arikan is the first chair to be appointed for the department.

Arikan earned a Ph.D. in Strategic Management and Corporate Finance from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Her research interests include strategic management, international business, entrepreneurship and corporate finance. She was promoted to the rank of full professor effective fall 2024.

Arikan serves as an editorial board member of the Strategic Management Journal and served as the 44th Chair of the annual international conference of the Strategic Management Society in Istanbul in 2024. She was elected and completed a three-year term of leadership for the Research Methods Community, Strategic Management Society and also served on editorial boards of the Academy of Management Review and Journal of Management.

Arikan has published work in elite academic journals including Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Academy of Management Review, Journal of International  Business Studies and Journal of Finance.

Arikan and Ilgaz Arikan, Ph.D., director of the Global Management Center and professor of management at Kent State, recently received a research grant from the Academy of International Business for their work, 鈥淕overnance of natural resources: the impact of spillovers from MNEs鈥 FDI before and after their divestment鈥 with co-investigators Shuo Yang, Minyoung Kim, Evans Osabuohien and Joep Konings.
