Â鶹¾«Ñ¡Celebrates 50 Years of Glass with Exhibitions and Lectures

Â鶹¾«Ñ¡â€™s School of Art Collection and Galleries present three exhibitions featuring local and national artists to celebrate fifty years of the School of Art’s studio glass program. The program, one of the first of its kind in the country, was started in 1969 by Henry Halem, professor emeritus and co-founder of the Glass Art Society.  Visiting artist lectures and a curator talk will also accompany the exhibitions.

Three glass-centric exhibitions will be on view at galleries on and off campus, including a national curated exhibition at the CVA Gallery “Â鶹¾«Ñ¡Glass@50,†a national juried exhibition at the Payto Gallery “Emerging Glass,†and a solo exhibition by a Â鶹¾«Ñ¡alumnus “Tim Stover: Linear Integration†at the KSU Downtown Gallery. All three exhibitions will be on view starting September 4 with opening receptions on Friday, September 6 from 5-7 p.m. during the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Kent. All exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public.

A special lecture by Henry Halem about the history of the Â鶹¾«Ñ¡glass program and its beginnings will take place on September 6 at noon in room 165 at the Center for the Visual Arts.  Two artists featured in “Â鶹¾«Ñ¡Glass@50,†Marc Petrovic and Kari Russell-Pool, will present a joint lecture on Friday, September 13 at noon in CVA 165 on their individual and collaborative practice.  Both lectures are free and open to the public.

Reception: Friday, September 6, 5-7 p.m.

A solo exhibition by Â鶹¾«Ñ¡Glass alumnus Timothy Stover (MFA ’13).

About the artist: Timothy Stover is a sculptor currently exploring the medium of glass.  He earned his B.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Toledo and his M.F.A. in Glass from Â鶹¾«Ñ¡.  Stover received scholarships to study at the Pilchuck Glass School and the Corning Museum of Glass, both of which he later returned to as a teaching assistant. While at Pilchuck, he was introduced to a method of laminating glass that changed the way he approached his art. The tedious and time consuming process of gluing glass together, grinding, and polishing it into new shapes mixed well with the dedication and attention to detail inherent in his sculptural practices. He currently lives and works in Toledo, Ohio where he teaches at the University of Toledo and serves as the casting instructor for the Toledo Museum of Art.
